Fluvanna sheriff's deputies under investigation after firing on suspect

Virginia State Police has opened an investigation after sheriff’s deputies fired shots at a wanted person in Fork Union on Friday.

Details remain scant even after the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office released a statement later in the day.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of Gravel Hill Road on Friday.

“While conducting the investigation and sweep for a wanted individual, the deputies were engaged in an officer involved shooting,” the sheriff’s office said in its statement.

Neither the deputies’ names nor the wanted individual’s name has been released to the public.

Agents with the Virginia State Police were called in to conduct an investigation, and that review remains ongoing.

The sheriff’s office said it does not expect to release any additional information at the present time.
