Man wanted in Orange County for attempted murder apprehended in North Carolina

Orange County authorities say the man who attempted to burn a family alive inside a Barboursville residence more than a year ago has been apprehended in North Carolina.

Juan Rodriguez-Bedolla, 57, was taken into custody near Stantonsburg, North Carolina, about halfway between Raleigh and the coast in the early morning hours Tuesday.

He faces five counts of attempted murder, two counts of arson and two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, all stemming from the Barboursville incident, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. The date for his extradition hearing in North Carolina is unknown at this time, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities have been searching for Rodriguez-Bedolla for more than a year.

The charges against him stem from an incident on Aug. 13, 2023, when sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported domestic dispute at a residence on Mansion Road near Barboursville Vineyards.

When deputies arrived at the house, they said they found the building in flames. All of the house’s occupants had safely evacuated by the time deputies had arrived.

They told the authorities that Rodriguez-Bedolla had fired several shots into the building, blocked the exit and set fire to the structure with them trapped inside.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been looking for Rodriguez-Bedolla ever since.
