Mint Springs Valley Park closed after Helene damages roadway

Mint Springs Valley Park outside Crozet is closed to the public after severe weather and flooding damaged the roadway near the park’s entrance.

The outer bands of Hurricane Helene dropped more than 5 inches of water on the Charlottesville area last week, causing rivers and creeks to rise and flood low-lying land.

Mint Springs Valley Park will be closed until further notice, Albemarle County announced Sunday.

“There is no estimated reopening date as staff assess the extent of the repairs needed,” the county said in a statement announcing the news.

The county added that the roadway damage is not related to the culvert damage, caused by Tropical Storm Debby back in August, that also closed the park for days.

Mint Springs Valley Park is located just northwest of the village of Crozet at 6659 Mint Springs Park. It covers 520 acres and hosts a seasonal swimming beach, picnic shelters, a playground and 5 miles of trails.
