The Ruckersville Walmart is closed until further notice due to a potential gas leak, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Greene County Office of Emergency Services.
The same concern closed the store Sunday afternoon for several hours.
“The Walmart located at 135 Stoneridge Drive North in Ruckersville is closed until further notice. Until safety issues are addressed and reviewed by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Greene County Chief Building Official, the store will remain closed,” the Greene County Office of Emergency Services posted to its Facebook page Wednesday morning.
Customers and employees were evacuated on Sunday and Wednesday mornings when a gas leak was detected.
Amerigas, which services the building and is the United States’ largest propane distributor, was on site Wednesday to start tests. If no leaks are found in the pipes, the gas company said it will proceed to test individual equipment pieces for leaks, according to the Office of Emergency Services.
“We are confident that the State Fire Marshal and our Chief Building Official will not let the store reopen until it is safe! Our representatives will remain on scene to continue efforts with Walmart Corporate and their maintenance partners,” the Office of Emergency Services said.
There have been no reported medical complications stemming from the reported leak.
